From 1 October the price households pay for gas and electricity will rise by 10% on average for those on standard price-capped tariffs. For a typical household paying by Direct Debit that's an increase from £1,568 to £1,717 a year.

And although not yet confirmed, it's predicted that this could rise by a further 3% from 1 January 2025.

If you're not on a fixed deal, you'll almost certainly be on a price-capped tariff so it might be worth considering to switch to a fixed deal.
